Pressure Acoustic

COMSOL Multiphysics can build a method to quickly evaluate a receiver's performance in the pressure field of the IEC 318 standard. The IEC 318 standard is the type 1 artificial ear, defined as simulating the acoustic load of the human ear under no leakage conditions. Its frequency bandwidth of application is from 100Hz to 4KHz. The sound pressure level and impedance versus frequencies in the pressure field can be calculated in advance to see if requirements need to be met.

The IEC 318 coupler's air volume is around two cubic centimeters.

The receiver's back volume and diameter are 40 millimeters. The IEC 318 coupler and back volume are sealed without leakage.

The Thiele Small parameters will be set on the effective diaphragm area of a receiver (Sd).

Calculate the acceleration that couples with the I.E.C. coupler and back volume in the pressure field, as well as the fI.E.C.uency response and impedance curve.

The total acoustic pressure and S.P.L. distribution inside the coupler can also be evaluated.

S.P.L.und pressure level and impedance versus frequencies are the simulated results. Unlike speakers perform in a free field, the sound pressure level in low frequencies is easy to accumulate in a pressure field, especially without any leakage. Some headphone designs will arrange proper leakages to decrease the S.P.L. in low frequencies for the sound enhancements in mid and hS.P.L.equencies. All kinds of designs can be predicted by building the simulation models.
